Nicols Nymett Caravan Park
Thirty pitches. That's it. Not thirty rows or thirty streets of caravans pressed together like a miniature town. Thirty individual homes, each on its own pitch, spaced out across woodland and open green space where the only thing you're close to is the view.
South-facing, most of them. Sunny views that stretch across to Dartmoor and beyond, where the light changes through the day and the only schedule is whether you fancy watching sunrise or sunset from your deck.
Nichols Nymett sits between Okehampton and Crediton, tucked into the kind of countryside people describe as "blissfully pretty" when they're trying not to sound too sentimental about it. But it is. Peaceful. Private. The sort of place where you remember what quiet actually sounds like.
Mike and Angela have owned the park since 1997, and they've kept it deliberately small. No entertainment complex. No clubhouse with karaoke nights. Just mature trees, well-kept grounds, and the kind of tranquil, woodland-fringed setting that makes you wonder why you don't do this more often.
The village of North Tawton is a short walk away - a proper Devon village, the kind with history and charm rather than a gift shop on every corner. From the park, you're ideally placed to explore the whole county. Dartmoor's on your doorstep. The South Devon coast beaches are within easy reach. The historic city of Exeter, when you fancy it. Both the north and south Devon coasts, accessible without the fuss.
The season runs from mid-March to the end of November. Long enough to feel like a second home. Structured enough that you're never maintaining a property you barely use.
Dogs are welcome. There is a launderette on-site. Parking sorted. LPG available. The essentials, without the clutter of things you'll never actually need.
This isn't a resort. It's a retreat. A place to recharge what one owner called "the run-down batteries of suburbia." Small. Peaceful. Secluded. The kind of park where people stay for years, not because there's nowhere else, but because they've found exactly what they were looking for.
